I Lost a Thing
Once I thought I had a thing
I thought that it was mine
It vanished in a puff of smoke
It left without a sign
This thing had kept me warm at night
It helped me feel secure
I don’t know where to find it now
I’m frightened and unsure
I still can try to find a thing
My time has not run out
It hard to get back up again
It hurts, without a doubt
A thing like love can fly away
It’s silent in the night
You cannot block the exits
There’s simply no respite.
I don’t know if I ever had
The thing I though I did
It may have just been
I may have been outbid.
I’ll cry a while and then move on
I’ve done this once or twice.
I’ll try to take some solace
In scotch with melting ice.
