Clearance

Clearance

Looking out the window
Thinking to myself
My life is just on hold now,
A mark-down on the shelf

You put me up on clearance
No one would pay full price
A red-tag, blue light special
Going once! Now, going twice!

A dented can and day old bread
Are now my two best friends
You’ll find me up on Craigslist
Just scroll down toward the end

So what I’ve got, is all I’ve left
I’ll have to work with that
A balding, aging, write-off
Who’s also kinda fat

It’s plain to see I’m not top shelf
I’m towards the bottom rung
I’m not quite ready for the trash
I still have songs unsung

I have a few more stories left
I’m only halfway through
I have to turn the page now,
And write chapters without you
